Viv kills a Scalvert queen using her sword, Blackblood, Lack shoves Kellin at one point, and Viv and Tandri are burned by “arcane fire,” but those are the only violent moments throughout Legends & Lattes.

There’s mention of some characters drinking and spending time in “swill-joints,” at one point, Viv and Tandri share a bottle of brandy, and Viv Tandri, Cal, and Thimble toast with brandy after reopening Legends & Lattes but that’s it for alcohol and drug use.

A month ago, If someone had told me that I would read and fall in love with Legends & Lattes, a book about an Orc starting a coffee shop in the late 14th century, I’d have sent them to a shrink or three. And yet, Travis Baldree’s masterpiece proves you can’t judge a book by its cover, not even the back one.
